How To Make Your Posts Count
Make sure you are adding to the conversation.
Here’s an example of what not to do.
Hank: I really liked the latest episode of Rhinoman!
Ralph: Same
See how unproductive that is? Saying one word or short phrases doesn’t make for a fun conversation. In those instances, likes are a great option!
Here’s what a productive conversation might look like:
Hank: I really liked the latest episode of Rhinoman!
Ralph: Me too! It was so funny that Rhinoman squashed BugBoy. What was that joke at the beginning about tho? It was weird
See the difference? Now both chatters get to add in more thoughts and open new opportunities for others.
Don’t use your posts to create strife. Use them to spread aether!
Double Posts
Hey, it’s something we all do, even me sometimes! How can we cut down on this? Take a little time between finishing writing and posting, making sure you have all your thoughts. Now, if you simply must add something you forgot, put SFTDP (Sorry For The Double Post), just to be nice : D
Quoting
This has been gone over a lot, so I’ll make it short. Basically, if the post is right above you, you don’t need one, unless picking something specific out from a long post. Tagging the member/s you are speaking to can usually work just fine!
If you would like to read more in depth, our former Community Moderator Peregrine made an excellent post on this subject.
Making Topics
An important factor is that we don’t clog up the forums with useless/duplicate topics. If you want to make a topic, I would first suggest looking up keywords and see if we already have one. After that, I would still recommend going to this topic:
Here you can suggest topics and get feedback. Someone might already know about a similar - exact topic and be able to point you to it. Some topics are too niche and small, so you might find out you can squish it into an existing topic.
Here is a template to suggest your topic!
I was thinking of making a “insert topic name here” topic! Describe the topic, give reasons why it is needed, ect,. here
Do you think this would be a good topic?
insert poll
On the same note, instead of making full topics about Quests, Glitches and such, check out these topics!
Staying on the Correct Topic
Sometimes you start talking on one topic, and before you know it, you are on a completely different topic than the one you started on. Take for instance,
*On the Star Wars
Topic*
Hank: I just watched Star Wars for the first time!!
Ralph: Dude that’s so cool! My favorite episode is The Empire Strikes Back. What’s yours? Oh! Have you seen those new Star Wars skins on Minecraft?
Hank: I’ve only seen A New Hope, but I liked it a lot! And yeah, I have. Pretty sweet!
Ralph: That’s a good one too. Anyway, I was playing the other day and trails into story completely unrelated to Star Wars
Oh no, what is Hank to do?! It’s simple. Just quote Ralph’s story and Hank can post his reaction on the correct topic. Now they can continue their conversation without spamming the Star Wars channel with off-topic content.
But what if you see a whole conversation happening on the wrong topic? Hey, that’s a great segway into…
Using the Member’s Union
See any of these mishaps in action? Quote the posts involved and bring them to the Member’s Union. My friend @Ariella_Newheart, who created this topic, made a very nice tutorial on how to use this topic.
The Member’s Union is a vital instrument in making the forums cleaner. Don’t be afraid to use it! And if you are the person being corrected, that’s okay! The MU’s purpose isn’t to publicly shame forummers for messing up, it’s to help each other with etiquette. Everyone can learn
How to Role-Play!
You will probably stumble upon a good amount of role-plays. If you enjoy writing or acting, you should join some! A good idea would be searching for the discussion topic of the RP you want to join and asking permission to enter the role-play before posting, you don’t want to interrupt an important plotline!
You will see two types of Role-Play- Free-For-All and Story. Free-For-All’s are generally ones that anyone can join (with permission). Story Role-Plays is where (usually) a singular writer is telling a story and so others can enjoy it by reading.
The last Role-Play we will talk about is Random Role-Play (RRP). This is where you go when you want to act out a crazy scene. Anyone can join, and there are really no bounds. Just follow the community guidelines. It still gets really crazy and random though. But that’s what it’s for!
Closing Thoughts
If you have questions, please don’t be afraid to ask, about anything! If you have an idea- share it! We love your input. It helps us create a better community. Just remember to be nice and pleasant to everyone, treat others how you want to be treated.
