I walk cautiously through the mines with one thing on my mind. Jefferson said to follow the blue tube of light. Follow the blue tube. Blue tube.
I had been assigned to a special mission for Jefferson, to get plans for an important project in the mines. He didn't say what the project was, just that it was very vital to his research and that I must get it soon and without flaws. I was going to do whatever I could to make Jefferson happy.
I duck into s crevice as a Mineon clanks through the the passageway. Looking both ways I ease out of the crevice and continue my mission of following the blue tube of light on the ground.
I soon find that the tube leads into a room, and I duck through the narrow doorway. I find myself in a small area with boxes of metal scraps and dented or scratched parts of Automatons. Something that looks like a metal closet is on one side of the wall, I decide to check it out. I walk over and tug on the handles, they don't budge. I stand there thinking for a moment when I suddenly face palm
ugh, how could I be so stupid? I need to oil it!
Shaking my head I pull out an oil can and pour it over the lock and handles. I try again and this time it opens easily. I find inside an enormous stack of papers, on every. Single. Shelf. Which is about three.
ugh!! How am I ever going to find the plans in here?!
I consider my options for a moment, and decide on the easiest one. To take all the papers and let Jefferson find the right one. I take the sack Jefferson had given to me with the purpose to carry the papers and shove every stack of paper I see into it. Then, with my sack weighting one hundred pounds and bulging like there's an elephant in it, I carefully step out into the tunnel and tiptoe my way back to the entrance.
As I'm walking out of the entrance to the Mines I hear voices and dive back in. I search quickly until I find a good rock ledge high on the wall and scale the wall to crouch there. Two Autoofficers walk into the Mines, one has a stack of papers, and the other has nails and a hammer. I lean over the edge a bit to see what the posters say. I can see a Wanted in thick black but the name of the Wanted is too small to see.
The Autoofficers murmur a bit and I lean forward to hear what they're saying.
"Why do we have to do this?" the officer with the posters says, shifting the huge stack in his arms. "Don't we have Automatons who can?"
"We do, but the Wanted smashed them all and the only Automatons left are the dumb ones." The other one says and takes a poster to hang it up on the stone wall right under my hiding place.
The poster officer chuckles, "Heh, remember that time when we tried to teach the dumb ones to hang up posters? They couldn't even hold the nail the right way and hammered their hands off!" he laughs louder but the other officer glares at him.
"Shut up Kurt, it wasn't funny. We had to throw away a lot of Automatons that day because they didn't have any hands."
The officer named Kurt stops laughing puts on a serious look. "Uh, yah. Ok well, get that poster up and let's go."
The officers hang up the poster without any more talking and as they're doing so I lean over the ledge of my hiding place more to see the poster. I'm concentrating so hard on trying to read the Wanted poster I don't feel my bag which is as heavy as lead slip over my head and fall on officer Kurt's head.
"Ouch!" Kurt says suddenly and rubs his head at the heaviness of my bag. I gasp,
"Where did that come from?" Kurt says and I start to panick.
He's gonna see me! I'm gonna die!!
Kurt turns to the other officer, who's packing away the nails and hammer. "I got hit in the head by this." He holds up the bag. The officer grabs it and jerks it open, his eyes narrow. "These are top secret plans, someone is here." I scramble back from the edge of the rock crevice as the two officer's eyes drift up to my hiding place.
I hear a gun being drawn, "Come out and show yourself." Kurt yells, but I can hear a hint of fear in his voice.
Well, I guess there's just one thing to do...
I draw my own weapon, an ice hammer. (with a retractable handle! I invented it myself) I stand up, and with a yell I leap over the edge and come crashing down on two wild eyed Autoofficers. With one swing I knock them off their feet and kick them as they come down. I swing one, and then the other into a dead end and watch them moan and crumple to the ground.
I narrow my eyes and huff. Then I pick up my bag and, after retracting the handle and storing my hammer away, I look down and smile, bending over I pick up a poster that had landed on my boot.
I read and there were several charges but I didn't care to read them.
Hmm, I don't think I've met this Draven before...I'll ask Glow and Nola about him.
I cast the poster aside and start walking out the mines when I stop, turn back, and walk around the mines picking up the posters. Then I take a marker (I always carry markers for emergencies) and write over the charges on the posters for every single one.
Then I take the stack and hurried to my speeder I used to get to the Isle. I put on my Friend Tracker and see that @Gloria_Oldenpinner and @Nola_Applequill1 are on the Flying L. But before I go there I fly over villages and drop the posters out the window.
THAT'S A GOOD
