Part one; Evergreen meadows
I am Rachel Blackruin, hero of the Resistance against Lucky and his wretched automatons. But it hasn't always been like this. I used to be a farmgirl in Evergreen meadows, I used to just work in the fields, milk the cows, collect the eggs from the chickens. But when Aria, Max, Jenna, and the Scarlet man came to my cottage, everything changed.
I was only 12 when Lucky and his automatons destroyed the meadows and everything in it. Flamethrowers were burning hay-stacks. Lucky was yelling orders to the clanking autos. People were scared.
Why would he want to hurt so many innocent people? What had we done to him? We used his fog, gave up 50 percent of our earnings to him, followed his laws, yet he still hated us, and attacked our homes.
My mother and father held me close as flames crackled close to the stone walls of our cottage. I cried, and so did my mother, but my father kept a solemn face, and comforted me. I saw some of my parent's friends running away, into the faraway fields. For some reason my parents didn't leave, they didn't flee to safety.
After the vicious attack the farmlands became much more serious. It seemed as though everyone was always scared. Worried for what automatons Lucky would send next.
I continued my chores, until I was 15, when I finally began to get fidgety and bored. I was tired of standing in the sun all day, sweating. I was tired of eating eggs everyday. I was tired of living on the farm.
I never told my parents this. It might've hurt my father's feelings. I assumed he'd want me to carry on the farm, but I didn't want to stay here my whole life.
I made several friends after the attack, but they had left to help the Resistance.
I always thought about the Resistance, but, it never occurred to me that it was real. Not until my friends left. I figured I would have to be adventurous and brave, not scared of anything, to join. I wasn't brave. I could see a spider and scream for my life.
After another year of working, I was 16, and I could barely handle the boring farm-life. When I wasn't working, I sat in my room, thinking. Sometimes I would try brushing my hair, but it was too knotty to attempt smoothing it.
I remember the day I met the Resistance. June 3rd. I was in my room, fanning myself with a large leaf. Mother and father were in the cornfield, unaware of the visitors at the front door. I heard the knock and jumped off of my bed. I hoped it was something exciting, maybe a new friend?
I opened the door and smiled at the three people outside. Two girls, one boy. All dressed in fabulous attire.
"Hello? What can I do for you?" I asked.
One of the girls answered. "It's me, Aria!" she said. I remember screaming in shock. Aria was my best friend, before the attack. I always thought she was captured by an automaton. But here she was with my other friends, Max and Jenna!
"We're in the Resistance now." Max had said, showing me the badge on his chest.
"Yeah. The Scarlet Man sent us to-" Jenna had began.
"The SCARLET MAN!?" I yelled, "He sent you!? He's REAL!?" I asked, jumping.
I remember them laughing, each one of them smiling wide.
"He wants you in the Resistance." Jenna had taken a badge out of her pocket, handing it out to me.
"Yeah, Rachel, if you join, things will be so much better for you, and your family!" Aria had said, hugging me.
"Will you? Will you join?" Max had said, sounding impatient.
"Yes!" I said.
That was the day I joined the resistance. When everything changed.
