You can do either. It won't matter if you plan on canceling the subscription later. But if you don't want to cancel it in the future, then just choose the one that makes the most sense for you.

So... I understand that The Aetherlight needs more money... But does it need to make us pay for the episodes we already bought. I'm fine with subscribing for new content, but I don't like subscribing for the first three episodes that I already bought the family pack for...

And... Look at Lotro, or other games like it. They had a subscription model. but as soon as they switched to a free to play, But you could pay for more classes, or races, or cosmetics. They started making more money.

I think that worked because nobody likes subscriptions, but a small one time payment here and there is fine. I've spent a bunch of money on Lotro. But i never would have, if it costed money to play the game.

Just something to think on.

Let's support The Aetherlight instead of being salty about the subscription.

I want to be supportive of Aetherlight, but it kind of seems like if you bought the family back, Aetherlight gave you their word that you could play the game for a lifetime. Now it seems like their going back on that word, and you instead only get, like, six months. That doesn't seem quite fair. I would rather just play with what I got, because I ain't paying for the subscription, and that means that now I can't even play with what I had. That's saddening, and downright frustrating if you ask me.

These are my thoughts. I also agree with what my brother, Cody, has to say, which is quite similar to what I've written here.

It's true that your time is limited now on the new model, yes, and I understand that it doesn't feel so good to move to a subscription from a lifetime thing. I, too, do not like subscriptions, but I feel hopeful about where this will take The Aetherlight. It is your decision how to feel about it and how this will affect your Aethasian journey, but it is safe to say The Aetherlight will never be going back to an episodic payment format. It's all or nothing now.

...I like the way Lotro does it. The entire game is free. but you pay for more content. Be that Expansions that add even more to the story, either quests or new story, new races, classes, or cosmetics. I'd spend way more money on that, then on a subscription model.

Just inserting a quick opinion: we have to consider how new Aetherlight is, and the small fan base it has. For Aetherlight to continue generating new content, such as Ep. 4, it has to have a consistent stream of income. It has to have more Aether to run their Great Engines!

LOTRO has thousands of players (I'm guessing) so LOTRO can afford to make it subscription-free while making players pay for extra content.

At this point, I’m okay with the subscription payment format (I went with the 6 months), but smacking level requirements on weapons and locking it up so Caleb can’t even use the map without subscribing is just making this thing hurt.

Mech: Let’s FORCE the existing community to subscribe by taking away their stuff so they will.

Not to worry! Even if you do not subscribe your progress and account, quests, items etc will still remain in tact forever!

Calm down, guys. It'll all make sense. I'm sure everything will be made right as far as your money goes. Mech and the team won't rip you off and any lost time will probably be readded in someway.

We were patient for 3+ years. We can wait a couple more weeks until everything is sorted. Let's not be like the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. I have concerns too, but I know all will be made well. Please keep in mind that this is still the testing period. We were all fortunate to take part instead of not doing anything at all.

I would spend absolutely none if I could. I find it irritating that games give you free no-add playing and then jam buying 'coins' in your face at every chance. I think that them doing the subscription is fine.

SFTDP, let me rephrase, I don't like having to pay for something I could do (Harder, sure) for free, and games (Like Gardenscapes) that push buying coins and 'gold tickets' etc. are kinda annoying to me. I think it is more honorable that they are doing the subscription.
