Forgive me if you get all of this already, but there seems to be some confusion. His point is that everyone's accounts start off as free accounts now. So like, on my main character, when the update happened, I became a "free" account in the new system.
However, the money you spent on your old account isn't lost; it's just transferred to the new system. All of that money becomes "subscription credit." You click subscribe as if you're paying for a subscription, but you don't get charged. However much you spent on your account in the past will be applied to the subscription. You can see how many free days you'll receive in the parent dashboard, and when the free days are up, you can easily cancel your subscription to avoid paying if that's your concern.
It's not like The Aetherlight could just let all of us have "infinite subscriptions" from here on out just because we bought a few episodes in the past. The whole goal in this update is to solve some of the profit problems The Aetherlight was experiencing, and "grandfathering in" a bunch of players would defeat that. Let's support The Aetherlight instead of being salty about the subscription.
