Hogan's Heroes uses one of the oldest and most underrated fictional tropes, the heroic trickster. For centuries, people all over the world told stories of otherwise weak characters getting their happily-ever-afters through cunning rather than luck or magic. Everywhere you turn in folklore, you find tales of farmers, tailors, and other clever people turning the tables on those in power. Hogan's Heroes is just such stories brought into World War II.

I agree. That's why it's 'eh' for me. It seems that at that time period, (the TV boom) there were so many similar TV shows that they all blended. IDK. Just not my cup of tea I guess.

The only other that comes to mind is M.A.S.H., and that's more of an army-themed sitcom.

I like Hogans Heros, but it's legit supposed to be a concentration camp!!1!!

Correction, POW camp. Similar but different. And, yes, the show doesn’t really represent well the actual conditions POWS lived in, but that is half the show. It’s just supposed to be funny not realistic.
