I shuddered as the three newcomers spoke with Gustav. They sounded just plain evil. I tried to act normal at Gustav’s guidance.
As they tramped about, I noticed the way that they acted was kinda familiar. Then I remembered the nasty men who dragged my parents away. It was a terrible day. They had taken them because they owed the Emperor too much money. I ran and ran from them. Then I sprained my ankle in a drain and sat helpless all night. Next day a man came, I was frightened by him he reminded me too much of those others, the way he spoke and moved. But he fed me, he took me to a lady’s house and she took care of me until I was well. That man was Mr. Badcop. A name that didn’t match him at all, I thought. Sure he talked gruffly and was a little unrefined, but he was kind to me and that was all that mattered.
Now these men where the same as him, yet very different. I was again afraid. I backed into the store room to collect my courage. Then I made an important decision. When they left I was going to follow them. (This was a very bad decision on my part. It was liable to really blow Missy’s cover).
I came back out and watched them carefully.
