Please read if you have read and enjoyed The Appleclock Saga:
Hello, everyone! Soooo update on my role-play... I'm going through a bit of a dilemma.
If you look up when the last post on TAS was, you'll find that I haven't updated it in fourteen months. That's quite a while. If you asked me why I haven't gotten back to it, I'd probably answer, "I haven't had the motivation." or "I've been focusing on other things." or "I don't really write as much as I used to." And those are all fairly legitimate reasons for me.... but there's an underlying "main" reason, and it's actually a little more complicated...
If you've read TAS, you'll know that one of the most important parts of the plot is Dekreel (also known as Nelly), a wolf-like bipedal creature with a cat's tail (the backstory of why she's like this is a whole 'nother topic that I won't get into in this post), and how Peri can shape-shift into her and back.
A little backstory behind my decision to make Peri and Dekreel the same: The very first online forum I ever joined (over three years ago) was a forum for writers, and my alias there was Dekreel. Aislinn Mollisong and a few other Aetherlighters were on this forum as well, and they were the ones who introduced me to The Aetherlight. So when I wanted to join I decided I wouldn't tell them who I was when I arrived, and after making friends with them over again under the alias of Peregrine, I would make a role-play and do a BIG REVEAL where I shape-shift into Dekreel and blow everyone's socks off. Even though my cover was blown the day I joined ALF, I still kept that idea when I started writing TAS.
Dekreel has been a part of my Aetherlight character basically forever, and she was a big part of me as a person too. I related to her. How -- I won't get into it, but long story short, she was the one whom I wanted to strive to be. However, the older I grew, the more mature and content I got, the less and less I related to her, and the farther I've drifted away from her. And now, I'm almost completely detached from her, and I no longer have the motivation to continue her story.
...Which leads me to my main point: I am discontinuing the Dekreel canon.
To all my early Aetherlight friends who are accustomed to the idea of Peregrine and Dekreel being one and the same, and even a handful who met me before Peregrine as a character was even a thought: I know you loved Dekreel, and I really appreciate all the support you've given her over the years. It's been so heart-warming and I can't thank you enough for everything. This will be a pretty big change for y'all, and for me too, but I hope you understand why I want to do this.
So what does this mean for The Appleclock Saga? I don't really know yet. Worst case-scenario, I abandon it entirely... but I'd rather that didn't happen. Best-case scenario, I rewrite the story entirely, with a new backstory and a new plot and a new Peregrine. It will be strange playing with a character that's 100 percent human. At the very least, I will be concluding the original story soonish (if my ADHD brain remembers to do so anyway), and when I'm ready and I have a steady backstory and setting, I'll begin a new saga in which Peri was born and raised in Aethasia and not "frankensteined" into a creature in some other world.
Pretty soon I will (hopefully) start making plans for a new Appleclock Saga. I will update you all when that starts to happen, and I may even post polls when I need an opinion on something. So keep your eyes peeled for that!
Sorry for the long post; props if you read through this whole thing. If you have questions let me know. Until then.... see you soon.
P.S. I would like to also include Korey and Leina in the new TAS as well. They're probably going to go through a rewrite too. I'd like to keep their personalities if not their powers.
