I don't know him very well, so I don't have one. Actually, he's the hardest person to get to know I've ever not actually met.

I think the legend of Saint Nicholas has gotten way out of control.

I approve this highly scholarly and historical take on this issue. His legend most certainly does not warrant deceiving generations of children as to the nature of his existence as an eternal being, which is something the real Saint Nicholas would probably find reprehensible.

He can be difficult to talk to sometimes, I'd say there's a large mental gap between him and a lot of people. Though if you can get through that gap, his intellect can be very helpful. Overall, I'd agree with Eerie, he's a good person, and what he lacks in social skills, he makes up for 4 fold with his mind at least.

I agree. But it is a cool story. My parents always told us kids the truth, and they explained to us how the story was started and how the real St. Nicholas lived a long time ago. But us knowing these facts led to some interesting conversations. For example, my older bro, when he was wee and little, was at a grocery store with my mom. As they were checking out the cashier asked him if Santa was going to bring him any presents. He replied bluntly, “Oh he’s dead.” That cashier was probably scarred for life.

There are similar Christmas legends around the world. In some places, they believe the gifts are left by the three Magi who never did find their way home after meeting Jesus.

Another is an old woman who met the Magi and also wanted to visit the Christ Child, but delayed to finish her housecleaning. When she finally put a sack of toys on her back and set off, the Magi were long gone and she got hopelessly lost. Ever since then, she's been wandering the world looking for Jesus.
