Hey everyone. I have a friend at college. We'll call him Thomas (NOT his real name). Thomas is a very complicated person. He is an extrovert and a social butterfly. He loves getting to know people and helping people. Sometimes people share personal issues with him. The problem that he has is being vulnerable himself with others. He happens to be suicidal, has at least same-sex attractions, has a secret struggle with cancer, and has depression as well. He also is very emotional, fun to be around, and an overachiever when it comes to schoolwork.

I have known Thomas for a little over a year. I have always known he is an outsider, no matter how much he loves socializing. I really want to be his friend, even though it's hard to truly know him well.

2 weeks ago, he found out one of his friends, we'll call him Matthew (again, NOT his real name), recently committed suicide. Matthew and Thomas had been friends since before Thomas started college. Matthew actually saved Thomas from committing suicide himself at least once and was a very good friend of Thomas. Thus, after hearing of Matthew's suicide, Thomas's deep, deep depression set in. Recently, I had a meal with Thomas, and other friends we have reached out to him, too. Yet, a couple of nights ago, Thomas was found unresponsive and taken to the hospital. He is now awake and alert, and will likely spend a few days there.

Please pray for Thomas. He has a large community of believers that he and I are in that love him and want to support him. He probably isn't a Christian, even though he has a lot of Christian friends in our Campus Ministry. Unfortunately, I feel like only God can heal his body, heart, and mind. More than anything, I really want him to open up about everything he struggles with, with SOMEBODY, especially God Himself.

I wanted to share this with y'all so that more believers our age could pray for Thomas. So thankful for this online community!!

This sounds like the sort of thing that would be in a terribly heart-wrenching book or movie, not real life. Praying for Thomas.

Hey I love you, and sometimes it's great to have a sense of humor, but that could come off a little blunt, especially if someone's really hurting. I really appreciate that you're trying to help, but reading the room is really important.

I would appreciate some prayer. I am a very rational person and am fairly good at not guiding myself by my emotions. I internalize my emotions and hardly ever let some of them show. I know a few (specific) people (no one on here. Just an FYI) who are the exact opposite and they drive me nuts. I sometimes come across cold (Irl) I think and that just makes things worse. I just have a had time understanding what makes them do what they do.

I wouldn't say that because I have been like that at times... but I understand. I guess if you took away those sort of feelings there wouldn't be things like sympathy, love and happiness. The best thing to do though is to pray for those peoples feelings and our own.

I wouldn't wish emotions away, I'd wish for better skill in dealing with them. On a scale of 1 to 20, my charisma is rated at 2, maybe 1.5. It's landed me in the soup more than once.

Hi, I need some prayers, I'm feeling very lonely. I live in a city away from family & m trying to find a loving church community, I checked out a few churches here but their was some major flaws in their beliefs so I didn't go back. I'm trying to find a group of in-person Christian friends in my adult age group & its been really hard because I don't have any friends ATM, I don't want to make friends with people who aren't Christians because they swear, drink, & are sexually immoral. I'm really trying to find good friends who love Jesus Christ who like to have fun in healthy ways that aren't sin. I'm also ready for marriage & I'm praying really hard to finally meet a Christian boy I'm attracted to. It feels like it's never gonna happen. Also pray for my family my little sister is dating a Muslim, & my mom has a drinking problem because my father passed away from cancer, my 3 brothers are also not saved, they are living sinful lifestyles with their partners. God wants us to keep ourselves pure until the wedding day & all my siblings know that. We grew up in a homeschool Christian family ( a little too strict sometimes) but that doesn't mean they should give up their faith like that. I'm upset that none of my siblings want to become real Christians none of them read their Holy Bibles...3 of them say they're Christians but you can't be living with your unmarried partners & be in God's will. I'm praying for their genuine salvation. & I'm praying for God to send me a cute Christian boy & that when we get married we'll be a good example to my siblings to do what's right & do it God's way.

I have Asperger's so I'm the same way, I struggle with empathy & understanding peoples emotions, I can't read people's facial expressions or body language so if people don't mean what they say, or say what they mean I don't pick up. Someone wrote in the comments above "read the room", yah ppl with autism, we can't read the room that's our problem, you have to be very direct & say what you mean & I also come off as cold or rude sometimes without that intention too. Usually girls are seen are more emotionally responsive so when I don't show my emotions like most girls there can be a lot of fustration for me & them. So I understand what your going through. Just tell people that you don't intend to be rude or cold you just have difficulty & if someone says you said something rude, than just say sorry.
