I've been wanting to do this one for some time. This time, I hope I have found the right words. The tune is "The Song of Durin" sung by Clamivi De Profundis.
The Aethasia of Old
When time was young and world was new
And nothing dimmed the sky's clear blue
When wildflowers bloomed in forest glen
The Great Engineer walked with men
He made the wonders that we see
From strange device to blooming tree
He gave it all to us to keep
From highest cloud to watery deep
That we might bear His image there
And treat it all with utmost care
The cities built were fair and bright
Before the fog came with its blight
So many wonders were made there
There was nothing they would not dare
Now such wonders are hard to find
Since fog has made most people blind
The Great Engineer ruled the land
With peace and justice by His hand
In Evercity's turning halls
He wrote the law upon the walls
There was no need for sun or moon
As light perpetual was His boon
Given by His Aether day and night
It shone through the land ever bright
The greatest minds served Him as well
There wrench did turn and hammer fell
Each used his talent for His work
And not a one e'en thought to shirk
For work was also their delight
Whether it was to build or write
Delvers did mine and singers sang
Throughout the workshops, music rang
They never wearied in those days
As Aether fueled in many ways
Machines and men could both go on
All through the night until the dawn
Now world is grey and sky is dim
The hope for light is looking grim
Aether seems hardly seen at all
The fog pollutes a once bright hall
The poison creeps into us all
And causes us daily to fall
But still a violet light appears
To silence our unwanted fears
That we may resist until when
Aethasia's King comes back again
