I have not heard of this Proverb, Mr. Beckendorf, but I do agree that having multiple streams of income is a good idea. If you lose one of the income streams, you aren’t panicking because you have no money, but instead have all of the others to fall back on.

I don’t think that applies to income as much as investment investments like stocks, bonds, gold, high-interest savings accounts, index funds, hedge funds, real estate, and lifecycle funds. That’s 8.

How do they have time for their children?

I’m assuming they have their own businesses, because otherwise this is insane. Some couples, I do understand, just really like to work (as opposed to Miss S who enjoyed sitting around and complaining instead #englishmajor ) but I don’t think there’s a Biblical justification for it. For example, my dad likes airplanes, and it’s really hard to side-gig that, but he has a completely valid professional existence. I really don’t think your parents have a valid call to claim superiority over him for that one.

As for the cleaning products, it depends on whether they are actually good.

If it is Norwex, we're big fans. Considering how often my kids get nose bleeds, having something that with literally just the cloth and water can get blood out of something else is really useful. (And their business model isn't quite so demanding on the "sales consultants".)

The way I describe all those businesses is "high quality products that someone has to explain why you might be willing to spend extra on them." As long as the products are actually high quality as claimed, I don't mind any of them...I just get annoyed when the product falls WAY short of expectations.

My family hates strong smells, so the candles one and essential oils are out. I think there are make-up and jewelry ones we also have no interest in. And we're not regular chefs, so we don't bother with the high-quality knives or pans. My mom was into the original tupperware back in the day, and that stuff really held up (some is still good decades later).

I don't think the Bible is telling us how many jobs to have, either. And my parents are very intentional about having meals as a family, as well as working together. (They can't always make it to sporting events, but owning your own business is the way to go if you want a flexible schedule.)
