A lot of people use that as an excuse to get away with things the Bible says are wrong, or simply gloss over the things they don't like. Anyone who tells you that love is a mere emotion is wrong. The natural loves, family love friendship, romantic love, have an emotional element. However, agape is rather removed from emotion. This kind of love is not warm, fuzzy feelings towards people, it is actively doing things for them. Love is far more than a feeling my friend. If it were a feeling, people would not stay married, families would not hold together, friends would not ride or die for each other.
Love is no mere feeling, Jones. If your relationships were based on mere feeling, one bad day would ruin them all. At its core, love, especially agape which must be mixed in with every love a Christian has, is an act of will.
Love is, in short, behaving in a loving way towards someone even when the feelings are not there. It is being patient and kind when the other person is exasperating. It is not taking out your frustrations on that person when you are upset.
You are onto something. Most things in life are good, but we must not carry them too far lest they get in the way of our relationship with God.
