Anyway, the point that I was trying to make in the last post is that going from homosexuality to being a Christian less a matter of change than of belief. Belief in the truth is what gets you out of the lake of fire, and change is what improves your life on the road to the New Jerusalem.

I wanted to point out that this type of post could be an example of what someone might find "toxic". Short. Easily taken out of context. Intentionally uses inflammatory language.

I'm intentionally skipping past all of the theological discussion after this and just asserting that deep theological discussion is REALLY easy to go sideways on an open forum thread. Lost a few friends myself over such things.

Helping a novice with a biblical question...much easier.
Arguing known theological hot issues...much trickier.

These days if I find a discussion going in that type of direction, I try to take the discussion to a more private setting instead of setting an open forum on fire.

I was sad to hear that we went through turbulence a few months ago. (I guess I didn't notice since at that point I was still busy running down bugs in the open beta.) I'm encouraged that it looks like everyone wants us to remain both a game and a forum community that continues to focus on teamwork and collaboration and sharing truth and wisdom in love.

(Sometimes it takes practice to get that right. If I'm not sure...I try to just keep my mouth shut.)

Hard to find the right church sometimes. Easier in small towns with only a couple options. Harder in a big city with hundreds of options.

We move a lot (military) and have found ourselves at Independent churches frequently. In general we rate the preaching based on % of the time they are reading the bible vs. sharing their own thoughts, and Independent churches (Baptist or otherwise) don't have to spend time and effort making sure their messaging is consistent with a larger organization's standards and policies. Other times we visited or accepted an invitation, liked the preaching and the community, but decided to look elsewhere because there was no children's program to speak of. One we liked best had a "full family involvement" policy, to include half the music team being under 18 and the preacher had no problem pausing to let someone catch a stray toddler. Some larger churches we've been to offered a lot more opportunities to get involved even as a new Christian because they were able to maintain dozens of ministries that all needed lots of helpers, while other large churches had formal logistics bureaucracies and were easy to get lost and overlooked in.

Overall, no exact formula based on the size or the sign out front...have to go inside to find out. And COVID...

Speak for yourself, I live in the Bible belt. My home church has four other churches within spitting distance of it. Two of those churches are across the street from each other. There is a church right outside the neighborhood wear I live. I'm used to seeing churches wherever I go. If I hadn't been brought up a Presbyterian, I'd be swamped with options like a stranger at a potluck.

I go to basically the only good church with decent theology in the area. My mom, expert church evaluator, went through 9 churches with feel-good theology and bad teaching to find this one.

The pastor and his staff are strong Biblical teachers at my church and they are willing to answer questions. Those are the attributes I consider to be most important. If you are looking for a church, I’ve found that the Awana website is a good place to start, as churches that host an Awana program have to agree with that organization’s morals. Not that is enough around here in Spiritual Wasteland of Doom.

This was excactly my point. And you can take anything out of concept.
