Wow, just slogged through all the posts on the Members' Union.
@Lilliana_Umbrellascope at the end of it linked a post that @Peregrine_Appleclock made that says this:
The Aetherlight forum is NOT:
a debate club
an advice forum
a youth group
Therefore, any debates about serious topics should not be on the Aetherlight forums. Even theological ones I suppose.
I have been active on the forums for almost a year now, and I have noticed a pattern now: cycles of people engaging with each other, one person proposing a debating stance, people discussing it using either/both logic and feelings, people getting frustrated or hurt, one or two people leave by being cast out or voluntarily, then back to people not discussing any debates.
Conflict is inevitable, but it doesn't have to be public. We have to stop this cycle, or else the kids that will soon be here due to Episode 4 are going to be in way over their heads.
Some may not like private debates, but it is the best option we have to keep people from leaving the forums. Besides, people leaving because of drama, whether who was wrong or right, does not look good at all.
This is supposed to be a Christian forum. Yes, we can't compromise on the truth, but we MUST say it in love, or the unbeliever will close their minds to us, thus, they can't hear the truth.
We can still be the warm, loving community I know we can be.
Hey everyone!
