(OOC: Oh my goodness! @Alex_Ironquill1, I am soooo sorry for not continuing this. How long has it been? Liiiike, almost a month, haha. My sincerest apologies. I’m going to have to skip some time, though, because there were eighty-five posts after yours [my bad], so after I address your post, I’ll just skip to what’s happening now.
I know this probably doesn’t make much sense, haha. I guess it would be easier to show you in this post, than to tell you. )
My eyes dart to Hazel, who’s holding a leatherbound book.
“Hey,” she says. “I think I found what we’re looking for.”
My entire face lights up and I put the book I was holding back in the shelf it belonged to. “Sweet!” I reply.
“Yeah,” Hazel replies. “The only problem is, the Effects page is missing. It’s all ripped out. See?” She shows me the area where the page was ripped.
I raise a quizzical eyebrow. “Who would want to rip that page out? I don’t know of anyone in the Sanctuary that has teleportation abilities like you do.” I pause, then gasp faintly. “Unless…”
“Unless?” Hazel repeats.
“Well, it obviously wasn’t written by someone in the Sanctuary,” I explain. “It was probably written by… Who’s the author?”
Hazel shrugs. “Some scientist, I think.” She shows me the cover of the book while keeping her thumb in the spot she must have left off on.
“Dr… Arthur… Cobblefizz,” I read. “Heh. He doesn’t really sound familiar.” I blink in thought. “You know… I wonder if…” I take my eyes off of the book’s cover and meet Hazel’s gaze. “I wonder if Arthur was a Wynged himself.”
“Maybe,” Hazel replies. “I mean, how else would Arthur know all about teleportation as an ability of the Wynged?”
My eyes widen. “Hazel… Hazel, what if he is a teleporter? What if that’s his ability? What if he’s been experimenting on his own ability, not others?”
“Well…” Hazel purses her lips. “Well, that wouldn’t really make sense. If he’s a Wynged, wouldn’t that mean he is - or was - in the Sanctuary? Is he even alive anymore? I mean, this book looks old - he has to be old, too, right?”
“Actually, it might make sense,” I reply. “Not all Wynged are here in Mountain Peak.”
Hazel scrunches her eyebrows.
“Vytanni and I…” I close my eyes, thinking of the time before Mountain Peak Wynged Sanctuary, and then the process of building it. “We tried to shelter all Wynged that we could shelter, but… But definitely not everyone.”
“Did they…?” Hazel starts to ask, her eyebrows no longer furrowed and her mouth open slightly.
“Some of them were experimented on, yes, and some of them…” I shake my head, not even finishing my sentence. “The point is, some of them were also at other sanctuaries across Aethasia.”
Hazel’s eyes widen. “What? I thought Mountain Peak was the only sanctuary for Wynged!”
“One of the only,” I reply, “but not the only.” I wink at her. “There’s a sanctuary in Evergreen Meadows, a sanctuary in Evercity, a sanctuary in Giant Seed Forest… And a sanctuary on the Old Mount.” I smile. “That’s where we are.” I pause, then add, “Stormy Lightscope, also known as Starfire, told me she was from the sanctuary in Evergreen Meadows called Sky Haven. She said she was sent here from the Scarlet Man to help us in the darkest of times. Maybe she knows Arthur?”
Hazel nods earnestly. “Maybe! It’s worth a shot.”
I nod. “I’ll ask Stormy about it later, but first, I’m going to check on some of the residents and make sure they’re okay.” I shake my head sadly. “I didn’t expect so much war… I didn’t expect them to have to fight so soon.”
Hazel puts a hand on my shoulder. “Hey, we’re in this together. We are the SkyRaiders, and we’re ready.”
I smile. “Yes, we are.”
4 Hours Later
I’m standing in front of the big tree in the middle of the Sanctuary, clipboard with paper in my right hand and an orange pencil in my left. I had made a checklist four hours ago, visiting some of the residents of Mountain Peak. Some of them were a bit shaken up after the fight, but for the most part, they were… Well… Surviving.
I felt proud of these people. These people were residents… Our residents. I know Vytanni doesn’t want more war, and I don’t either, but I’m sure she would be proud of what these people have all done, risking their lives to save the Sanctuary.
To save the Wynged.
I snap out of my thoughts. Speaking of Vytanni, where is she? For goodness’ sake, last I saw her, she was boarding the airship without me and visiting the Resistance base. What is she doing now?
If I had the strength - and the energy - to telepathically communicate with another Wynged, I would try to communicate with Vytanni and ask her where in the Aetherstep she is. But I don’t have that strength, nor that energy, so I only stand in front of the tree, right in the middle of the Sanctuary, clipboard with paper in one hand and pencil in the other, hopelessly wondering where my mentor and fellow Co-Founder is.
I shake my head sadly and start walking toward the backyard. I love the backyard. That’s where I like to go when I feel--
Listen. I am Vytanni Throttlenight.
I am being held against my will under the orders of Zaul and Lucky.
If you can hear me, I am in need of help.
“Vytanni!” I say out loud, breathily. My head starts to feel like it’s being crushed in the deep ocean.
My location is uncertain, but I know we are underground, and the smell of Fog is very strong.
“AHHH!” I scream, from the pain in my head and also from Vytanni’s message.
Great Engineer bless, and hurry; I can’t hold out for much longer.
“VYTANNIIIIIIIIIII!” I scream. Now, my head feels like a can of soda when you “un-pop” the dents. I crash to the ground, gasping for breath.
After a few seconds, I slowly stand up, catching my breath and looking around. I start to see more people entering the wide, airy hallway where I am, staggering around and looking at each other, as if saying, “You heard that too?”
I finally realize it wasn’t just me that heard this message. Vytanni sent it to all of the Wynged! We… We need to form a group and rescue her! We need to--
“Wynged people of Aethasia, someone like you needs your help!”
The young female voice interrupted my thoughts. It sounded far away, but it was still loud enough to be heard.
“She is locked away in the clutches of Lucky,” she continued. “We must save her! Please come to the courtyard so we can devise a plan. Thank you.”
The voice sounds familiar… Where do I know-- Lila! It’s Lila! Lila Lightcraft, assistant to Jefferson. I met her and Kitty when I accidentally stumbled into them. Lila had animals in her bag, I remember.
My mind reeling with all that is happening at once, I stagger to the courtyard and see many Wynged, all gathered around a large circle table, conversing about something.
I step up to the table. “You all heard the message, didn’t you?” I ask, sounding more of a statement than a question.
A girl nodded at me - it was Lila. “Yep. And we’re here to formulate a plan! Let’s just make sure everybody gets here first.”
“Well, we need to do this quickly,” I reply. “If we can’t form a plan in less than ten minutes, I’m going to rescue Vytanni myself.”
Lila blinks, staring at me.
I sigh. “Sorry. I’m just saying, we don’t have much time.”
“Right,” she replies. “Let’s do this!”
