-Role-Play Piece-
Vytanni swoops over to Missy as they fly, giving the newest Guardian a soft nod before taking the unconscious girl from her arms. The extra weight caused her to drop slightly in the air, but a quick shift of her sky-blue wings readjusted her balance. A thousand whirlwind thoughts began to churn through her head.
Why was this girl alone on the mountain? And if she had been sick (Which she was undoubtedly, because of the wings coming in) Why had she thought it prudent to go on a lengthy height? but most disturbing....
Why couldn't Vytanni have sensed her?
The Headmistress shook her head as the Sanctuary came into view. She could usually detect hatchlings, just before they hit the Awakening Phase... It was like knowing someone you knew was nearby. She shook her head in irony.
She sounded like Professor X.
The wing of residents touched down in the garden, and Vytanni wasted no time.
"Starflame, fetch May as fast as you can. Tell her about the Hatchling. You three can go or come with me." With a flurry of feathers the Headmistress whirled around, heading deeper into the Sanctuary. Missy and the two Fledglings were right on her feathers. She jogged down the hall, snaking around the halls till she came to one of the spare rooms. She laid the unconscious girl on the bed, being gentle with her pre-mature wings as she spread them across her back. This way, the blood and fluid could fill them faster.
Vytanni stood back, taking in the hatchling before her. She was skinny, and a bit pale, likely from the sickness. Her bright firebrand red hair was vivid and healthy, and her clothes seemed to state a middle class. Vytanni turned her attention to the wings. The Insect-like wings were like a cross between a butterfly and a Dragonfly. The majority of the wing's membrane was transparent, with the edges being a dark black-brown with a bold white stripe slashing horizontally across the top of them. Vytanni felt a small flutter of excitement.
An Insect Class! First I've seen.
She stifled her anticipation as May and Nola pushed their way into the room. The Blonde warrior was the oldest of the graduates, and Vytanni's first pupil. Her Blue and aqua wings were pulled tight behind her, the blue feathers slightly raised in apprehension. She sided up to the bed.
"Is she doing ok?" She asked.
Vytanni nodded.
"She seems to be fine for now... the worst of it has already passed. I'm more worried about how she will react when she's up. We Winged folk aren't famously accepted by the townspeople."
May gave a small nod, checking the newborn wings for damage. Her free hand absently touched a scar on the top of her wing.
"Understatement of the year Hawk." She teased. She straightened. "Her wings are healthy, the fever has already broke, and her vitals are stable. Just let her rest and pull out of the unconsciousness spell and she'll be fine."
Vytanni gave May a grateful smile, bumping her wings with her own to signal gratitude and comfort. The renegade medic gave a smirk in return, before walking out of the room. Vytanni caught sight of the four winged shapes still standing in the room, nearly facepalming.
She had forgotten about the others.
She let out a sigh, facing her second .
"Nola... If you don't mind could you see that the new students are all settled in? I would do so myself, but I feel it would be best for me to stay with the girl."
Starflame gave a small nod, her wings ruffling as she slipped out into the empty hall. Vytanni looked at the Guardian and Fledgling duo, her eyebrow raising.
"Don't you two have classes?"
The two gave a unified chuckle, Missy motioning with her wing to Pig. Vytanni cleared her throat.
"Could you take Emily with you too? I may not have time to train her today."
The Draconic winged Fledgling's wings sank slightly, her face falling in disappointment. Vytanni felt a twinge of guilt. She gave a small mischievous smile
"You can take Moondust with you."
The older Fledgling's face lit up, and she whirled out the door. Missy laughed and darted after her, Zephyr hot on her wing-tips.
Vytanni settled into the chair to the right of the bed, leaning back, her soft feathers like a extra-soft backrest. She watched the young girl, her face betraying her apprehension. She knew how it felt, and even though she had been exited when her wings came in, the fear had been... palpable too.
I hope I can help her... it's not easy.
