Maybe the cat is important to the game, and they will reveal it eventually, but are just hinting at it now because of spoilers. Can anybody think of an important thing it could do in future episodes?

Hmmmmmmmmmm, maybe it could distract a bad guy for a split second which would be just enough to give the good guy enough time too escape! Or..... It could be like the crow that gave Elijah food when he was hiding in the wilderness! Or....... it could show up at just the right time to save the day by delivering a secret message to someone. And that is temporarily all I can think of.
