Christians are human beings the same as everybody else. We may consciously sin, but we come up with excuses. We, as humans, are extremely good at justifying our actions to ourselves.
Good intentions do not always make good deeds.
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
22 Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven times.
29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
This verse does not mean that we should be pushovers, but it does mean we should forgive. If you came into my home with homicidal intent, I would probably make an attempt to overpower you by whatever means I had.
However, I would have to forgive you eventually. It doesn't matter whether or not you repent. I would forgive you, but you would still have to face the judicial and spiritual consequences of your actions.
