"Hey, the hallway is opening up!" I pointed ahead towards a light, and Carter ran forward almost instantly. "Hey, wait! It could be a trap!" I shouted after the resister. He did not heed my call, so I quickly ran after him.
As soon as Carter passed into the next room, the door slowly began to close. I pushed forward with all my strength and was able to slide through the closing doors right before they shut tight.
I took a deep breath and looked at Carter dubiously. He shrugged and helped me up.
"We have to stay together and take it slow," I warned. "This place is dangerous."
Carter slowly nodded. "Right, sorry. I just got a little exited. this is the first light we've seen for an hour or two."
I looked around the room we were in. It wasn't very much lighter than the rest of the sewer, but it was welcome. There were numerous doors around the room, but all seemed to be shut tight. There was no way out.
I asked the obvious question. "What now?"
As soon as those words left my mouth, a large door on the opposite side of the room from us slowly opened. I rested a hand on my remaining pistol.
"You know," Carter began. "That could be our way out."
"It could," I said slowly. As the door opened more, it revealed what was behind. It looked like a... a croco-dile? What was the model...? I didn't know. I pulled out my pistol and fired at the automaton, but the bullet just bounced off of the metal. The automaton roared and charged straight for us.
Carter and I looked at each other and said in unison "Run."
