@Abriss_Gearspark As promised, here is how to get curly hair according to my friend:
Conditioner with no sodium or silicon in it. (At least I think it was silicon you need to avoid. It could be something else. I know you do need to avoid sodium for sure.)
Conditioning balm (not the same as conditioner)
Hairdryer with a diffuser (optional)
Step 1: Shampoo first using your preferred soap.
Step 2: Condition your hair with the sodium-and-silicon-free conditioner and leave it in your hair for 5-10 minutes. Don't rinse it out.
Step 3: Use that time to do everything else: Wash the rest of you, put on a show, sing, etc. . .
Step 4: After it's been in your hair for 5-10 minutes, you may rinse out the conditioner. For best results, leave a little bit in your hair when you come out.
Step 5: Wrap your hair in an old cotton t-shirt you're not using. Don't dry your hair with a towel as it causes more friction, thus more frizz.
Step 6: Flip your head upside down so your hair hangs down and gently apply the conditioning balm all over, sandwiching strands of hair between your hands and pulling down.
Step 7: Apply gel in the same fashion.
Step 8: If you're in a hurry, use a hairdryer with a diffuser (a specifically-shaped add-on piece) to dry your hair, again with your head upside down. If you're not in a hurry, you can let it air-dry. If you decide to let it air-dry, it's a good idea to take a shower early in the day so your hair doesn't get messed up in your sleep.
Step 9: When it's dry, your hair will be "crunchy" and stiff. That's okay -- it's the gel holding it together. To make your hair softer, flip your head upside down again and "scrunch" you hair towards your scalp. That should loosen up the gel a bit. And voila! You should have somewhat curly hair. As long as you don't brush it (I know, I was scandalized when I first heard it but you can't brush your hair if you're going to do this. o.o), it shouldn't be as frizzy.
If you don't have all of the materials, or you're too impatient to follow every step, you can take the simpler-but-not-as-efficient routine which I have devised for myself, as I haven't bought all the ingredients yet. You will need the sodium-and-silicon-free conditioner, but not the rest.
Follow Steps 1-5 above, and then put your hair in braids as tight as you can manage. Leave them in until your hair dries. Your hair will still be frizzy, but it will also be curlier and/or wavier. And don't brush your hair.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
