@Coop_Blimppenny Quick question: I've noticed that you've been editing some posts so that links are surrounded with brackets like this: [www.example.com] So I was wondering if we're allowed to do that, too.

I just got two ideas for combating automatic external links! (I'll use the Aetherlight homepage for an example. XD)

[www.theaetherlight.com] or [theaetherlight.com]. If you put it in brackets (NOT parentheses, just brackets), it doesn't create a clickable link.
www . theaetherlight . com / theaetherlight . com. On both ideas, forummers have to either search it out or copy the link, but it's their choice, not an automatic, clickable link. I got this idea since Coop said you could do links inside of an image as long as it's not an embedded, actual link.

I've seen people do this when they want to make non-link links as well: www(dot)theaetherlight(dot)com.

Oh cool! I think it kinds of defeats the purpose of banning links, but I like this idea! Definitely going to use it.

I wouldn't say that it defeats the purpose of banning clickable links. . . See, I think that our friends at the Studio planned it so that it's more work to get to the links, if that makes any sense. So, a kiddo couldn't say, 'I accidentally clicked the link and it took me to a bad place'. In order to get to the website, you'd have to actually copy and paste or even manually enter the link, and then, at that point, it would no longer be the Studio's fault. So they couldn't be held responsible for the link. (I think.)

Very good breakdown @Arrethtraen_Sprocketline. The thought behind it is that the act of going to another site is the user's choice and they have to intentionally go out of their way to find the website.

Correctamundo! Just flag links as they appear. Labeling them as inappropriate seems like the best option. I'd prefer if no one posts about a link they saw, it does draw attention to it
