I've been taking ballet lessons for... let's see... 3 years I think! 
For my first year, I was doing gymnastics at the same time and took only one class a week. I was hoping it would be helpful for my floor routine. But then I ended up having to retire from gymnastics due to an injury, an almost re-injury doing the same thing, and a subsequent mental block. So the next year I started taking two classes a week in ballet. This last year I took six. It was great!
Well... it would be great if I could find a Christian ballet company, but I really doubt that's going to happen. God has told me I shouldn't pursue a career in ballet, because of the culture surrounding it and because I would likely have to compromise my beliefs to get paid (e.g., getting cast as a witch in a story ballet, having to wear bad costumes, etc.). You would not believe the things people are doing these days. 
I LOVE TUTUS. 
They are soooooooOOO pretty. For the recital this year, I got to wear two. However, we don't wear them in class (sadly). Neither do professionals, unless they are rehearsing for a special role requiring one. Then they use what's called a practice or rehearsal tutu, which slides on over a leotard. I hope to get one someday... here's a picture!
For pointe class, we wear wrap or pull on skirts, because (IMHO) it just looks wrong to not have a skirt on en pointe. 
Besides, it's pretty. I have quite a few skirts, ehehe. They generally have satin ribbon ties and a pretty pattern. Some people wear these in flat class, but I think it's distracting and unnecessary in flat classes. That's just how I was 'raised.'
So pretty, right?
Some ballet schools have strict dress codes that tell you to wear this or that, like sometimes they even specify the exact type of leotard and color and the exact type of flat shoes and tights. That's crazy to me! I like having a dress code by color by level. For instance, level one has pink leotards, level two has blue, level three has purple, level four has green, etc.
The studio I'm at now specifies black leotards, but not many people follow the dress code which is kind of annoying. I go to another studio too which is connected with a professional company, and they don't follow their black-only dress code either. Like, what's the point of a dress code if no one enforces it? I follow it anyway, so all my leotards are black. Good thing I like black leotards.
