So, I haven't had an insane amount of time for the forums, but since Thanksgiving break is a thing, I've been merrily writing away in a role play created by Nautilus Lightblast called The University Unitious

From said role play, I was inspired to try this:

This is a visual interpretation of a conversation between Principal Purplebottle (@Emily_Purplebottle) and talent scout @Eerie_Coppernight via Aethasian communicators.

This is one of my early attempts to draw something reminiscent of anime. From studying a few examples, I picked up a few little techniques which I added to the picture: the floating eyebrows; the spacious, open eye design; the dramatically size-changing pulps according to the intended emotion. I also simplified the design of the butterfly mask, the ice skater's dress, and Captain Fallow's hat (yes, I know it's a lot bigger than that).

I really like how this piece turned out. Emily's expression is so alive and fun, something I enjoy a lot about the anime art style. It's been a while since I've role played, and The University Unitious has been such a gold mine story. It's been wonderful to write with these amazing people and I can't wait to see where the story goes next!

Here we have a portrait of @Nautilus_Lightblast, semi-stylized to be more cartoonish, since I did this mostly from memory apart from the hat, which Eerie forced me to get right. Aside from leaving off the ginormous ice wall in the back, I copied it best I could.

I gave the picture floating eyebrows to add some expression to the wielding mask.

This drawing went through several phases in my mind before I settled on this one. I was first aiming for a similar stance, but with Nautilus holding the mask instead. I also considered drawing something reminiscent of my sketch of Cinder Darkedge without the view of No Man's Landing, since that took me a full week to finish.

Also, a colored pencil died in the making of this sketch. However, I hope you enjoy it!

Great drawing. And thanks for leaving off the enormous ice wall in the back, I've tried everything possible to get rid of it, including sleeping in the Grease Pits boiler room, but to no avail.

The eyes do make it look more cartoonish, but it adds some emotion to the drawing. (I feel like I've seen a mask with eyebrows on the outside before, but I can't remember where from.)

But I'm glad to see that only one pencil met it's end while drawing. I once tried to sketch something similar, where I stood facing the paper straight on, and my shadow was Lucky's shadow, (Which was nearly impossible, since I'm not very good at sketching, painting, and pretty much anything that involves colored tools. Except for pixel art.), and as a result, a cactus green, gold, and silver charcoal pencil were all sacrificed for the greater good (Or bad, since the sketch was not nearly as good as the one you made.).

I am looking forward to future sketches, if you do decide to make more.

That's what I was aiming for. I want to get better at drawing people with notable expression and character, which is why I love cartoons Some emotions are best presented in silly art.

Thank you! I stood in game for a good long time to draw it. I also had to improvise some of the angle since the in-game character can't actually see most of the building tops that Cinder was viewing.

Oh, I'm sure it wasn't bad by any means! The sketch idea sounds impressive. I've often thought about drawing character silhouettes filled with pictures which represent the character's history and personality, but I've never done that successfully, and I doubt I ever will, mainly because I can't get a clear enough picture of it in my mind.

To further my quest to better draw expression, I have created this:

In this drawing we have @Nautilus_Lightblast, sitting on a rock, staring at a foggy shadow of our favorite evil boogie man overlord. @Eerie_Coppernight and I are pictured standing behind him, out of sight and mind. Eerie and I hold communicators, indicating a conversation we were having about the unpleasant happenings at school. However, Eerie isn't paying attention to me like the good older sister she is... ahem, because the situation she is perceiving is more important. The object of her concern is currently Nautilus in his present out-of-reality experience. Notice, the colors of Eerie and K are faded and incomplete. This is to indicate that I'm not actually there and that Eerie has been left outside of Nautilus's daymare.

Eerie and I also serve to represent Nautilus's victories for the cause of the Resistance: The Rebellion and The University Unitious. However, those accomplishments seem to pale in the face of his life-long thorn in the side. Notice his hat and mask are removed, set aside to behold the enemy. The persona of "Nautilus Lightblast, esteemed gentleman and pioneer of both the Rebellion and the University" means little in the face of this secret; the burden he has yet to overcome, a thing that weighs heavily on his mind and spirit. Here is a moment of remembrance; a brief visitation of the bane of Aethasia, relative to relative... but only in the mind's eye of Nautilus.

As for the translation of the Aether runes, the green reads "Line of the Usurper", blue is "Vive a la Rebellion", and orange states "There is an imposter".

Potentially needless to say, I'm pretty happy with this one! I really like how the expressions came out. Another colored pencil died in the making of it, however, I have a feeling I'm a bit hard on those things...

My biggest question in this one was Nautilus's hair. He told me the color, along with the color of his eyes, but I hadn't a clue what style his hair was in. It's no secret that I'm pretty awful at drawing guy hair unless I have a picture to copy from, but I don't think it looks terrible...

All the same, I hope y'all enjoy it!

This sketch is far better than the first drawing you did of me, in my personal opinion. The expression on my face, the way my shadow appears to be distorted with fog... it's simply magnificent. Then, there's the story behind the sketch. Not many artists can create such an in-depth drawing like this.

I tip my hat off to you, madame.

My biggest question in this one was Nautilus's hair. He told me the color, along with the color of his eyes, but I hadn't a clue what style his hair was in. It's no secret that I'm pretty awful at drawing guy hair unless I have a picture to copy from, but I don't think it looks terrible...

I think it looks perfect as-is. I had already pictured Nautilus with that sort of hair before, and it gives a refined yet messy look to it.
