Sitting around 1750-1950 recently and my USCF rating is catching up. Had a great performance in the u2100 section at the Mid-American Open this past weekend. Ruy Lopez is a good one. I'm not a 1. e4... player myself, but all the more power to you.

I play the French which is very positional, so it depends if you are a positional or tactical player. The Slav is also really solid, I used to play that. If you want something interesting then maybe you could try the King's Indian or Nimzo Indian.

One for white and one for black, and learn it well. Use the computer or database to study variations and watch YouTube videos or read annotated games to learn the ideas.
