I’m pretty sure it was a tiger trap, because I accidentally bought an anniversary Calvin and Hobbes book once, thinking it was a regular collection of comic books. Rather, it was a commentary by the author of Calvin and Hobbes on some of his characters and particular comics. He wrote about that comic strip too, saying that when he first began writing comics, he felt that he had to explain how Calvin and Hobbes met. He later on regretted it because he thought it would have been better to just write it like they’ve always known each other. Though the question is still up for debate, and you can be sure it won’t be settled by the author, unfortunately. He also explained how he would go out of his way to make sure the question of Hobbes being real was left unanswered.
