I realize it might be too late for this, but I'll just put it out there.
Not Be Shaken
Availability: Episode 1, post-story
This quest will begin with a visit to Lukas in his shop.
"Spiralin' servos! I've been reading through some of my books, and there's mention of a mysterious contraption that never got tested. The blasted book is missing some pages, though, so I can't say exactly what it is. One clue I have is that it was designed by the same person who built all these Aethersteps. Maybe if you took a gander at the plans over in Engine Bay, you might be able to get some more information."
Quest Objective 1: Examine Blueprints in Engine Bay
At this point, you can go to Engine Bay and look at the plans. While this normally says "Looks like plans for the machine I appeared in," while this quest is active, it will say "This writing is way too small to read." The solution? Use a microscope. (This could be hinted at by Lukas and other characters following the first look.) This will allow you to view a small portion of the plans, where there will be some writing:
This principle of Aether manipulation also allows for the creation of a hard-light barrier. Could be useful if someone was being attacked. I sent some plans to a friend on the Isle, who might be able to help with prototyping.
This could be reviewed at any time (including before the quest is received) by using a microscope on the blueprints again. (The item is not consumed.)
Quest Objective 2: Find Plans on the Isle
The player can then go to the Isle to track down the plans. It might be difficult to figure this much out on your own, so asking Lloyd will yield an important clue:
"These plans were sent HOW long ago? Hard to say if they even exist anymore. Still, mail is usually sent to the island by crate, so maybe one of these crates lying around will have it?"
Clicking a wrong crate will yield the "incorrect buzzer", but click on the right one, and your character will say "There's a label that says Mail, but I need some kind of rod to pry it open with." Use your dueling weapon on it, and the plans are yours.
New Item: Aether Shield
Crafted with Aether Boiler(s), Gyrostabilizer(s), and Plasma Globe(s), the Aether Shield is a consumable item used on self or ally in battle that applies the "Shielded" status effect for three turns. (Halves non-elemental damage for three enemy attacks, which includes the attack immediately after use.)
Once you receive the plans, the quest concludes with Lukas chiming in.
"Batterin' Boilers, you did it! Some kind of shield, you say? That'll sure be handy against those fog-brained machines! Say, I have some of these lying around; might help you get started."
Quest Reward: Plasma Globes (Enough for two shields)
