Amethyst Mountain. So that was the name of the haven Seraphine had found. Why was it called that? Did the purple mist and flowers have anything to do with it? Stretching her pale blue wings, she made as if to fly again. The youngling settled in her usual place on Seraphine's back. I will have to teach her to fly soon, that way she can escape from dragon hunters, she thought.
"Who are these hunters from Evercity? Are they Imperials?" Levreshar asked Everest. His vehement tone made Seraphine lower her wings and listen.
"Yes, imperials." The green dragon tilted his head questioningly. "Is something wrong?"
"Yes. I hate the Empire. They hunted down my family, and they took all of them. They took my brother. And I will never forgive them for that."
Seraphine's wings trembled. The Empire meant humans. All humans were angry dragon-hunters. They had taken Arcstorm, Levreshar, and Torthai's families. They had killed Seraphine's own dear ones. She wanted to ask how long ago Levreshar's family was captured. She wanted to know whether her friends' bereavement was a direct result of her own actions. Though she desperately wanted to ask, she feared the answer she would receive, and she feared what these dragons would think of her. As a result, she kept silent.
Levreshar was speaking again. "So should we not fight them here?"
"I would gladly fight with you, my brothers, but I cannot endanger Torthai," Seraphine replied, trying to not sound suspicious. Don't let them know. The voice seemed out of place, but it spoke so sensibly that Seraphine heeded it. "If you decide to fight the hunters here, I will take her back to Amethyst Mountain and return to aid you."
