The finality of it. Confronting Sonox... but with allies.
Nikko and I had already arrived by the time Sonox had Aislinn in her grasps, but time was evidently not any more merciful.
Sonox immediately knocked Aislinn out upon our arrival, and I suppose that's for the best. Things were going to get ugly.
I look to Nikko, he looks at me.
I speak, "We've had our differences, but in this time, I hope you and the others can find it in your hearts to forgive me... one last time."
Confusion spreads on Nikko's face, "Wait, Xonos, wha-?"
But he does not have the time to finish. I already have his weapon in hand, an old Tesla Blade.
Shocked, Nikko tries to step back, but I stun him and he falls to the floor. I kick him over to Sonox.
"Don't think I can't see through your tricks, brother mine," Sonox hisses at me.
"No tricks this time. Just you and me," I reply.
"You just destroyed your only hope. Father would've been disappointed if he lived here to see it."
"That I've finally found my old friendship?"
"That you had hope in the first place," she snarls.
We begin slowly moving in a circle. Both weapons activated and ready.
"You won't win this time," I say.
"And why's that?"
"The good guys always win in the end."
"And you're the good guy?"
"Yes, now I am."
Sonox scoffs, "Your stupidity appalls me."
I raise my blade to attack position.
Sonox speaks again, "You're right about one thing though. This is the end... for YOU!"
She lunges forward and slices the air with her Frost Blade. At lightning speed, I fight back.
Both blades cracking and fizzling as they come together in opposite motion.
I see Nikko and Aislinn out of the corner of my eye. Still lying there.
Sonox sees my eyes turning back.
She laughs, "Worried about your newfound friends? Don't worry, I'll take care of them for you!"
She throws me back with her blade and speeds toward the unconscious two.
She raises her blade for a moment, then brings it down for the kill.
I stop it at the last moment with my blade. Sonox's face contorts with rage. The first time I've ever seen her lose her cool.
And in her rage... she gets sloppy.
Chopping at my defenses, I am able to jab at her leg. She steps back. I twist around and slice at her head. She ducks and takes another step back. The same goes on for another new minutes, and for a moment, I almost win.
But it was a trap.
Sonox trips me and begins running towards Aislinn and Nikko.
Fortunately, I grab her leg and do the same to her.
She stomps on my arm and I shout in pain as something breaks. "You just made a grave mistake," she says, "and now I'm going to put you in one."
"I'll take you with me," I say through gritted teeth.
Sonox grins and reaches for her Frost Blade, but it's not there. It's in my hand.
Her triumphant look begins to morph into fear when I throw her weapon over the roof.
She tries getting up, but I'm standing first.
I grab her by the collar and lift her up. Keeping her secure, I see the river close by. Sonox sees it too.
I turn back and see her Cheshire grin before she makes us both fall and rolls us off the roof.
I don't believe in coincedence. Neither does she. Sonox probably saw the wagon filled with hay coming. After falling into it, I try finding Sonox in the mess. After searching, I still can't find her. Standing up, I see that the wagon is by the riverside. I take in the view before turning back seeing a lunging Sonox.
We both fall into the rushing water.
Trying to fight, gasp for breath, and swim all at the same time is a tricky thing, but somehow both Sonox and I managed it.
We reach the rapids when Sonox slams me into one of the jagged rocks. "We could've been siblings!" she screams over the sound of the water.
"We could've worked together!" she says.
I push off the rock with my legs and throw her into another one before grabbing her around the next. "We didn't," I say, "get over it."
She doesn't have time to reply before she looks back and sees a waterfall.
A smile forms on her lips, "That water leads to the Fogworks. The acid will kill us both is the fall doesn't."
"I didn't plan on dying today," I say.
She looks back at me one last time before speaking, "but I did."
She then kicks me in the gut before throwing herself into the fall.
I catch a glimpse of her silverly hair, shining in the light one last time before being engulfed in the foggy darkness below. Then I smash into a rock, and blackness is all I see next.
