I wake up to still darkness.
I yawn, stretching and blinking the sleep from my eyes. It really was nice to sleep the night through. Wait. What time is it? It was still dark. Had I slept the night through? I glance at my watch.
"Almost 9!?" How did I sleep this late?! How did they let me sleep this late?! And...why is it still dark? Because the windows are closed?
I slip out of bed, brush and braid my hair, and change into my Team Elderfun outfit. Oh, and my beret. Of course. I walk to the window to open it.
It won't budge. The shutters are sealed tight, somehow. I tiptoe to the door, suddenly wary. I soundlessly place my hand on the doorknob, turn it....
Nothing. I jiggle it. The door shakes, but stays closed. I shake harder. Panic rises in my throat. The first crazy thought that pops into my head is, Somehow someone kidnapped me and they made the cell look like my room!
A moment later, a more rational thought appears. "Someone just locked the door, that's all." I blink. "From the outside. At night." I inspect the crack between the door and the wall. I groan.
A deadbolt. The only lock I can't pick. Two of them... Suddenly, it comes to me.
"EMMALEE!" I yell, banging on the door with my fists. "Emmalee Applematch, you come up here and open this door NOW!" Pressing my ear to the thick wooden door, I hear muffled giggles. "Em. Unlock the door. NOW."
"I can't. I've got orders..." she says in an annoying singsong. "Orders from who?! Let me out!" I smack the door again, succeeding only in hurting my left hand. Ow.
"Orders from your friends. You can't come out of your room till they come back." "Who!? Em, just let me out!" I start feeling panicky. I can't open the door. I'm stuck. Hopelessly, helplessly stuck.
"Ariella." Ariella did this?! How could she?! My frustration is now directed at my friend. Until I remember who she is. They just want to keep me safe. Might not be the best way to do it, but they have good intentions.
I sigh. "Fine, don't let me out. How long do I have to stay here?" "No idea. She said 'not until one of our team contacts you'. It might be a while."
Great. At least I'm me, and this is my room. I'll get out by tonight, anyway.
"Can I have some breakfast?"
