Aetherlight Challenge League: Season 1

Ladies and gentlemen:

As promised, the April 15th update/announcement is here. A couple of the forum users and I have comprised maybe one of the best unofficial Aetherlight contests/competitions ever to be thought of. (I'm biased. You'll have to form your own decision on that. But I'm very sure by the end of this you will agree with me. :P)

Some of you will remember the Last to Leave competition Jeldergun Gaming hosted a while ago. This is nothing in comparison (and will not be as grueling either.) As mentioned before, this is basically our own version of the Olympics. We are taking the individual competition ideas of the L2L (Last to Leave) as well as bringing some more from the great annual Advent calendar that runs on the forums every December.

In addition to those two events, we are bringing back all the fun memories, games, and events of old that you all remember and used to love. There will be events of all kinds and hopefully, you all will find one that piques your interest.

With that being said, please keep in mind that this league isn't about involvement. We understand everyone has super crammed schedules as it is. We are setting this up so that it can be a do-it-at-your-own-pace type of thing. This comp is all about team spirit and turnout. I want as many forrumers, from the og's to all the newbies, to step up and support this cause. Almost half of the people I talked to during my precedency campaign mentioned "bringing more unity on the forums". This is it, ladies and gentlemen. This is my plan.

Yes, you will be competing against one another, but within your teams, and even within everyone in the competition, lift one another up and cheer everyone on. And that goes even if you're on the sideline and rather not compete. That's all I ask.

No matter if your time on the forums is minimal, I want everyone to join and be on a team! We are here to accomplish something great and unite the forums once again!

With this being said: It's time. The first season (which might be the only one) of the Aetherlight Challenge League is here!

A few added notes:
Please make sure to periodically check back here. There will be information to be obtained here that you might need for the league.

You might notice the awesomely, cool logo above. We are holding a logo contest for the league. The winner will receive 15 bonus points for their team once the teams are split up. The image above is a submitted logo and we won't say who made it until the 1st. (Right now it's only one so your chances are somewhat decent of winning). If you would like to submit a logo, let me know by sending your entry through chess.com. If you don't have chess, let me know and we will another way. Please do so by the 29th of April. I will vote on the one that will be the official ACL logo. (We might end up using others for different things later on so it's worth a shot.)

Two, (If you are using your main Aetherlight account or have already told otherwise (eg. Jacoby Elderfun), disregard this note.) we are allowing competitors to use whatever character/account from the forums they choose to compete for. (For example, if I made a double account in the Aetherlight game, I could use it for this comp if I cared to.) Please note on the form if you will be using a different account besides your main. We are doing this so we can give the awards to the correct in case someone would like it to go on their forum double-account.

Yes. I realized that would be the case as well as people not having time to compete in every single comp. That's why there is a pretty big variety. You can choose between the ones you want to do and as many as you would like.

Announcement:

The first season of the challenge league will be lasting for (as of now) the entire month of May. (Subject to change. TBA.)

As you all know, everyone competing will be divided into 4 teams. We will take everyone wanting to compete (or asked to compete for numbering reasons), and put them into a list in alphabetical order. One by one, each person will be picked through a wheel spinner. The first round of wheel-spinning will take place tonight at 7:00 Eastern time with the 25+ people we have at the moment. If there are 8 or more additional challengers wanting to compete by the 30th of April, we will do another wheel spin to figure out what team they will be placed on. Anyone after that will be added to the team next in line to receive a member.

In light of teams: Once your team is formed, you all will gather together and form a team name. (We decided to let you guys do this instead of us picking ourselves) Please keep in mind, that these names will be kept going forward for future seasons. We want to set a standard. I would like to see one-word team names that are based on something revolving around the Aetherlight. I want it to be kept professional for future competitors. The names brought forth will be voted on. If passed by the panel, they will be official!
