Hey guys, @Xonos_Darkgrate1 here again to give you guys ANOTHER guide. This time it's on how to make a good topic. Because, seriously, we all know one or two topics just sitting there like ghost towns. Never achieving their full potential... Well, if you're determined to make a topic that won't end up like that then you've come to the right place!
I'm going to simplify it and put the instructions into a few simple steps. You don't need to do EVERYTHING they say, but if you follow around those lines then your new topic will hopefully be successful. Yeah, I've had my share of "ghost topics".
STEP ONE, pay attention now!!!
Search around the forums to make sure your topic is original. There's nothing more annoying to moderators and helpers around the forums than having to tell someone, "Sorry, buddy, somebody ALREADY made a topic like this." Be careful so that you don't become that buddy. A good tool is the search engine in the upper right corner of the forums page. Use that to MAKE SURE that your topic will be original and worth creating.
You might have an original topic, but nobody really wants to read something like "The Topic For Kids Who Suck Their Thumbs". (Sorry to any kids who suck their thumbs...). Make sure that you make something both original AND interesting. Just not TOO interesting.... Like picking BOOGERS, okay I'll stop. Another thing you can do is advertise your un-made topic for a bit. Give people an idea of what to expect or what's to come. Unless your topic is supposed to be a surprise. If so, go ahead and keep quiet. But if not, try getting some other's opinion and comments on the topic you want to make. You might get some helpful or important insight.
Once you're definitely ready to create a topic, you have to remember not to get overly excited. If you don't have time to fill out your first topic post then don't post it then. You want to make sure that you write a brief but detailed description of what your topic is for and why. Get people interested. You don't need to, but this is always a good first step in getting some loyal readers.
Step 4. (count the clover leaves... heh, heh...)
You've got your topic, NOW WHAT?! (well, first you've got to calm down, that's what!)
Anyways, you've got your topic, but what do you do now? Well, at this point, you don't really need to keep reading, but if you want some more tips then you should STAY PUT. Ha..
Step 5. (five fingers, get it?)
Here's some last minute tips on keeping your topic alive and healthy. Keep adding to it. Don't just let others take over, because unless it's a self-running topic, then people will get tired or bored of your topic. Only YOU made your topic, so only YOU can keep it running according to plan. Another tip is to still get others involved. You don't need to hand them the reigns, but if you make your topic interactive and fun for everyone then EVERYONE will come. Also, try to keep ON topic. If you create unnecessary or irrelevant posts or conversations, people can get frustrated over that. It's also called SPAM. I'll make a guide talking about that later, but in case you see OTHER PEOPLE getting off topic on YOUR topic: do your best to politely tell them to TAKE IT ELSEWHERE. If their beef gets a bit overcooked, you can ask a moderator to remove their posts.
Alright, that's IT. I hope this great topic helps YOU make great topics. Have fun! If you have any questions about this or want to point out any mistakes I might've made, feel free to post them here! I hope this helps!
